Roles and Functions of Track Machines and Monitoring Directorate:

Development of new track monitoring systems including their procurement, commissioning and introduction on IR. Necessary modification in TMS for generation of various types of reports for direct use by field officials.

Criteria for track maintenance based on TRC results
-
Monitoring of track parameters and riding quality of IR track using TRCs. Presently TRCs are being run on DFCCIL tracks as well till procurement of TRCs by them.

Development/ modification/ revisions of specifications/ FRS of various types of on-track machines including issue of speed certificates, oscillation trials and CRS/Railway Board’s sanction for their introduction on IR and routs of DFCIL.

Dealing with all technical matters pertaining to on-track machines - maintenance schedule, list of critical spares, inspection checklist and technical instruction/ guidelines, Track Machine Manual.

Indianisation of various parts of on-track machines.
-
Policy matters and technical issues concerning small track machines.
-
Development of new types of small track machines including development/ modification/ revisions of their specifications and all matters pertaining to vendor development of small track machines.

Various types of tests and trials in Track Lab and in field pertaining to Track Design and QA/ Civil Dte.

Provision of test stretches for various types of Oscillation Trials of rolling stocks. Development and maintenance of nominated test stretches.

Association with Testing Dte. in connection with various track parameters limits for IR conditions for introduction of UIC/518/ EN-14363 methodology for rolling stock testing.

Design of Dedicated Test Track and working as coordinating dte. of RDSO for construction of DTT on NWR.

Policy of procurement of spare parts for various track machines of IR.

Commissioning of two Integrated Track Geometry Measurement system (ITMS) and One Track Geometry Measurement system (TGMS) .

Track Recording and analysis of 262018 km of Indian Railway track is done up to March-2025.
