Role of Works Directorate:
Works Directorate started functioning independently from September 2008. Works Directorate is dealing with unification and standardization of works matter, issue guidelines/specification of works matter and preparation of works programme. Works Directorate conducts Works Standards Committee (WSC) meeting and follow up action on WSC items and other technical issues cropping up from time to time.
Works Directorate is also responsible for maintenance of RDSO offices, colony & other infrastructural assets including construction of new assets through unit of Civil Maintenance Unit.
Brief Achievements in last one year:

New Unified Standard Schedule of Rates and Specification for execution of Building Works, Road Works and Horticulture Works has been developed through a nominated committee (IRICEN, RDSO & SCR) by Railway Board and submitted to Railway Board on 08.02.2024 by IRICEN.

Indian Railway Works Manual-2000 has been revised and submitted draft Indian Railway Works Manual-2022 to the Railway Board.

Works pertaining to implementation of IRUSSOR-2021 and IRUSS-2021 for Earth works in Formation & Cutting, Bridge Works and P. Way items. Railway Board has sanctioned Group Cash award of Rs.15000/- to the RDSO team in recognition of this work.

Provisional Report on Water Recycling plant for Indian Railway.

Prepared and submitted report on “Innovative Emerging Technologies” as per instructions received from the Railway Board, based on the “Compendium of Innovative Emerging Technologies” issued by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

Works pertaining to implementation of CPWD - DSR for Road and Building works in Indian Railway.

Revised guideline covering new technology on Water proofing in old/new construction.

Provisional Report on Sewage Treatment Plant for Indian Railway.

Budget Management of Demand No. 16 of Plan Head-18 for RDSO through IRPSM.

Face lifting and up gradation of Admin Building & entrance gate of RDSO with development of Harmony Park & fountain near entrance gate.

Provision of auto chlorinator at pump houses for potable drinking water.

Provision of additional toilets in Type III quarters in RDSO colony (Phase III, 84 Nos.)

Renovation of toilets in Type-IV, IV special, V & type-V duplex quarters (207 Nos.).

Provision of Boundary Wall (3.0+0.6m) around RDSO campus (2 Km).

Improvement of Stadium and provision of viewer gallery, jogging & walking track.

Improvement of leaky roof in service building and staff quarters (90 Nos.).

Replacement of door and window in RDSO quarters (Window shutter 643 Nos. & Doors shutter 216 Nos.).

Improvement of Type IV quarters in RDSO colony (74 Nos.).

Improvement of RDSO Officers Club.

Improvement of flooring such as epoxy flooring in M&C Lab.

Provision of fire suppression system at Administrative Building, Annexe-I & Annexe-II Building.
Current assignment in hand:

Assistance to One-man Expert Committee of Shri Roop Narayan Sunkar, Ex Member Infrastructure, Railway Board constituted by Railway Board for review the existing practice of Indian Railways, other institutions like CPWD, NBCC etc. and give suggestions to draw a roadmap for improvement in inspections/ construction and maintenance practices along with IRICEN,SCR & WCR.

Consideration and comparison of One-man Expert Committee’s report with earlier proposed IRWM-2022 (finalized by the earlier committee comprising member of IRICEN, WR, SR & RDSO constituted by Railway Board on 07.07.2022) and give recommendation to the Railway Board.

Preparation of uniform drawings and specifications for standardization of quarters all over IR.

Green Building certifications of RDSO’s Administrative Building, Annexe –I & Annexe-II.

Budget Management of Demand No. 16 of Plan Head-18 for RDSO through IRPSM.

Improvement of existing roofs of staff quarters and other building to prevent leakage.

Provision of boundary wall & additional room in officers bungalow.

Modernization of the track lab in TMM Directorate.
