About Rolling stock Department:
Rolling stock Department is vertical head of all Rolling Stocks comprising of Carriage, Motive Power & Wagon Directorate. It also comprises of Inspection & Liaisoning units at Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. It is actively engaged in the development of new designs/ specifications and upgradation/standardization of the existing designs/specifications of Rolling stocks in Indian Railways. The main activities of the Rolling stock Department are:

Development of new drawings & specifications and improved designs of Rolling stock.

Development, adoption, absorption of new technology for Rolling stock.

Validation of design by tests and trials along with PUs and Testing directorate of RDSO.

Co-ordination with PUs and user railways in the area of failure investigation, design modification etc. of Rolling stock and Standardization of design between RDSO and PUs.

Vendor development of assigned safety and other items of Rolling stock.

Inspection of critical and safety items of rolling stock, locomotives, coaching stock and wagons.

To ensure adherence to Quality Policy in reference to Vendor development, Inspection, Type approval etc. Granting approvals/closures in the cases of Fresh Registration, Quality audit, Upgradation, down gradation, deletion, retention of firms etc., as per Apex documents
