Welcome to Track Machine & Monitoring Directorate

 

 Roles and Functions of Track Machines and Monitoring Directorate:

  • Development of New Track Monitoring Systems including their procurement, commissioning and introduction on IR. 
  • Necessary modification in TMS for generation of various types of reports for direct use by field officials
  • Criteria for track maintenance based on TRC results.
  • Monitoring of track parameters and riding quality of IR track using TRCs. Presently TRCs being run on DFCCIL tracks also till procurement of TRC by them.
  • Development/ modification/ revisions of specifications of various types of on-track machines including issue of speed certificates, oscillation trials and CRS/Railway Board’s sanction for their introduction on IR.
  • Dealing with all technical matters pertaining to on-track machines - maintenance schedule, list of critical spares, inspection checklist and technical instruction/ guidelines, Track Machine Manual.
  • Indigenization of various parts of on-track machines.
  • Policy matters and technical issues concerning small track machines.
  • Development of new types of small track machines including development/ modification/ revisions of their specifications and all matters pertaining to vendor development of small track machines.
  • Various types of tests and trials in Track Lab and in field pertaining to Track Design and QA/ Civil Dte.
  • Provision of test stretches for various types of Oscillation Trials of rolling stocks. Development and maintenance of nominated test stretches,
  • Association with Testing Dte in connection with various track parameters limits for IR conditions for introduction of UIC/518/ EN-14363 for methodology for rolling stock testing.
  • Design of Dedicated Test Track and working as co-ordinating dte of RDSO for construction of DTT on NWR.

Brief of Achievements during 2020-2021:

  • Studies for implementation of UIC-518/EN-14363:  Finalization of limits of various track quality parameters for Indian Railways based on analysis of TRC data of approximately 58000 Kms.  
  • Identification of sections as per EN-14363 for carrying out oscillation trials for high speed (120-160 Kmph) and low  speed (80-100 Kmph) range. 
  • Highest ever track recording by TRCs – 1.79 lakh Kms in 2020-21. Last best annual progress was 1.01. Lakh Kms. in the year 2018-19. 
  • Specification of Self-Propelled Turnout Measurement Cars (STTMC) has been finalized and revised the specification of Unattended Axle Box level Acceleration Measurement System (UABAMS).
  • 22 nos. of vendor applications finalized
  • Eight vendors upgraded from developmental category to approved category for respective Small Track Machines.
  • Forty two specifications of Small Track Machines have been revised.
  • Regular items of Small Track Machines having less than three vendors reduced from eleven to one.
  • Field Trial for determination of Longitudinal and Lateral Ballast resistance for PSC sleeper of different sleeper density (1540, 1660 & 1818) for Lab Condition, Just after tamping and consolidated track has been done
  • Construction Of Dedicated Test Track: Work is already in progress at site.  Twisted Track completed. Approx 25.63 lakh cum earthwork has been completed & work on 16 no. bridges completed. Work in progress on 02 major bridges and twelve minor bridges. Proposal for Phase-II (Total length = 58.5 Km) has also been approved by Railway Board in Works Programme of NWR at a cost of Rs. 466.43 crore.
  • Total 8 nos. of technical specifications of track machines have been revised and approved by RDSO.
  • Total 35 nos. of Maintenance Schedule Manuals, Critical Spare Parts and Inspection Checklist of track machines have been prepared and issued to Zonal Railways.
  • Total 21 nos. of speed certificates of different track machines have been issued.
  • RDSO has finalized 21 Nos. Specifications and 31 Nos. of drawings of spare parts of track machines.
  • The sanction for introduction of new track machines for 3 Nos. of Track Machines (MDU, HOBCM & PCT/Gemac) has been obtained from the Railway Board through CCRS.
  • The Oscillation Trials of 3 Nos. of Track Machines (RBMV, WST 08-32 & WST VPR02-M) have been conducted on Khajuraho - Mahoba section of North Central Railway.

 

Current Assignments in Hand :

  • Introduction of following New Track Monitoring Systems in Indian Railways.  GPR, TIMS, UABAMS, ITMS & STTMC.
  • Integrated Track Geometry Measurement system (ITMS).
  • Zero speed Integrated Track Geometry Measurement system (ZITMS).
  • Unattended Axle Box level Acceleration Measurement System (UABAMS)
  • Track Inspection and Monitoring System (TIMS)
  • Ground Penetration radar (GPR)
  • Self-Propelled Turnout Measurement Cars (STTMC)
  • Track Recording and analysis of Indian Railway track as per frequency laid down in IRPWM.
  • Technical specifications of track machines to be reviewed - 8 Nos.
  • Maintenance Schedule Manuals, Critical Spare Parts and Inspection Checklist of track machines to be issued to Zonal Railways - 8 Nos.
  • The speed certificates of different track machines to be issued - 09 Nos.
  • The Specifications and drawings of spare parts of track machines to be finalized – 20 Nos.
  • The sanction for introduction of new track machines to be obtained from the Railway Board through CCRS – 04 Nos.
  • The Oscillation Trials of track machines to be conducted on Khajuraho - Mahoba section of North Central Railway – 3 Nos.
  • Nos. of vendor applications for Small Track Machines to be finalized : 16 Nos.
  • Vendors applications for upgradation from developmental category to approved category for respective Small Track Machines to be finalized: 26 Nos.
  • Revision of specifications of Small Track Machines: Seven no. 
  • Number of vendors to be made minimum three to balance one regular item of Small Track Machines .
  • Field Trial for Rail Stress measurement in E.CoR. for speed upto 100 KMPH for 22.82 t /22.9t and upto 90 KMPH for 25t  to be conducted.

 

Achievements during Current Year (2021-2022):

  • Procurement and installation of one Integrated Track Geometry Measurement system (ITMS). Lab validation of two ITMS systems –Completed. Other systems are under the tendering stage.
  • Track Recording and analysis of 55202 km of Indian Railway track done upto August-2021.
  • Technical specifications of track machines: (i) Finalized – 1 Nos. (ii) Uploading for 30 & 15 days completed and under finalization- 3 Nos. (iii) Uploading for 30 days – 02 Nos. (iv) To be uploaded for 30 days – 02 Nos.
  • Maintenance Schedule Manuals -01 Nos, Inspection Checklist -01 Nos. & Critical Spare Parts - 03 Nos completed.
  • The speed certificates of different track machines to be issued - 04 Nos.
  • Specifications – 11 Nos. and drawings -12 Nos. of spare parts of track machines.
  • The CCRS inspection for sanction of introduction of new track machines by Railway Board completed – 03 Nos
  • 05 nos. of vendor applications of Small Track Machines  finalized
  • Twenty two vendors' applications for upgradation from developmental category to approved category for respective Small Track Machines finalised.
  • Five specifications of Small Track Machines have been revised.
