Key activities of Research Directorate are as under:

 

  • R&D Projects
    1. Research, Design and development Projects:
      • Wheel Impact Load Detector (WILD)
      • Hot Axle and Hot Wheel (HAHW)
      • Design and development of FBG based WILD system
      • Measurement of lateral and vertical forces
    2. Specification related Projects:
      • On line Monitoring of Rolling stock (OMRS)
      • Machine Vision Inspection System (MVIS)
      • Smart yard
  • Establishment of R&D Centers:
  • Centers for Railway Research at IIT Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee & Madras
  • Malaviya chair at IIT BHU, Railway Design Centre at NID Ahmedabad & Kalpana Chawla Chair at PEC University Chandigarh
  • Setting up of center of excellence for Bogie design at RDSO
  • The execution of the project involves setting-up advanced computational facility for designing of bogies on virtual platform using high end CAE tools and setting-up physical test facilities and Labs for prototype design validation.

 

 

 

  • R&D activity with foreign institutes:

  • Korean Railroad Research Institute (KRRI), Korea

  • Railway Technical and Research Institute (RTRI), Japan

  • Russian Railways

  • Technology Mission for Indian Railways (TMIR)

  • Apex level Meeting (On behalf of DG/RDSO)

  • Coordination activities for the GCM,CBRR, RTC, CRR, BRICS & other meetings

  • Coordination with Indian institutions like IITs,

  • Coordination with foreign institutions like RTRI, KRRI, UIC etc., wherever required

  • Arrange visits/meetings of foreign delegations to RDSO

 

  • ISO Cell

  • RDSO (Research Design & Standards Organization),Research wing of Indian Railways has  become the First Institution to be declared SDO under “One nation one standard” mission on BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) with the scope

“Standards developing organization for products, processes and services for railway transportation sector in India”

  • The recognition granted to RDSO shall be valid for a period of three years from 31 May 2021 to 30 May 2024.
