Organization Chart:

Brief Achievements (2020-Aug’ 2021):

  1. Specification for 7 channel Digital Single Rail Tester (SRT) & Double Rail Tester (DRT) were revised to provide B-Scan display for better reliability and productivity in UFD testing of Rails with GPS system for location. 03 vendors for each (SRT & DRT with B-Scan) had been developed for manufacturing and supply in Indian Railways.
  2. Ultrasonic flaw detector for Axles & Wheels developed as per revised specification and two vendors approved for manufacturing and supply to Indian Railways.
  3. Ultrasonic testing procedure developed for SEJ/ISEJ.
  4. Bench marking for Vehicular based Ultrasonic Testing System for testing of Rails/Welds at a speed of 40 Kmph has been successfully completed with Rail Borne Maintenance Vehicles (RBMV) and Rail cum Road Vehicles (RCRV).
  5. Development of LHB Wheels at Durgapur Steel Plant for Indian Railways as “Make in India” scheme of Central Govt.
  6. 04 Nos of Coaching Paint Specification Nos. M&C/PCN/100/2018 (for Epoxy cum Polyurethane painting system (2 Packs), M&C/PCN/123/2018 (for High performance Anti Corrosion Epoxy coating-2 Packs), M&C/PCN/129/2018 (for Poly Siloxane based painting system for Bridge & M&C/PCN/111/2018 (for High Build Epoxy paint-2 pack) were reviewed for improved corrosion parameters and to facilitate the procurement of paints by IR in supply, apply and maintenance mode.
  7. A project on development of high strength Bainitic rail was undertaken in association with IIT/KGP. Project has been completed by IIT and final report submitted to Track Design Directorate.

Current Assignments in hand:

  1. Upgradation of 9 channel Digital Single Rail Tester (SRT) & Double Rail Tester (DRT) to provide B-Scan display for better reliability and productivity in UFD testing of Rails with GPS system for location with incorporation of detection of bolt hole cracks.
  2. Standardization of welding parameters of R260 & 350HTgrade rails.
  3. Lab evaluation of 350HT rails of Bhilai steel Plant (BSP), SAIL.
  4. Development and process evaluation of locomotive wheels in Lalganj, Raebareli.
