Welcome to Engine Development Directorate

 

 

Role of Directorate:

Set up in 1987 state-of-art and maintaining laboratory and test bed facilities, the Engine Development Directorate is engaged in:

  • To achieve better fuel efficiency
  • To enhance power output of existing Diesel Engine
  • Study of emission on Diesel Engines
  • To facilitate indigenization
  • Development of new activities related to Diesel Engine
  • To provide R&D backup to Zonal Railways and Pus
  • Development of Center of Excellence for Bogie Design

Brief Achievements in last one year:

  1. Development of COMMON RAIL DIRECT INJECTION (CReDI) System for 16 cylinder EMD Locomotive of Indian Railways.- test bed trail runs completed.
  2. Emission testing of two Export diesel locomotive of Mozambique at BLW using Emission Test Car
  3. Performance evaluation of Miller cycle based turbo-supercharger  for ALCo locomotives
  4. Performance evaluation of turbo-supercharger  supplied by M/s BFL for ALCo locomotives
  5. Performance evaluation of mechanical unit injector of M/s EMD for HHP locomotives

Current Assignment in hand:

  • Development of specifications for Hydrogen Fuel cell based hybrid power train for 1600 HP DEMU Engine
  • Development of specifications for Hydrogen Fuel cell based hybrid power train for 700 HP Narrow gauge Engine
  • Framing of Emission Standards for Diesel Locomotives of Indian Railways
  • Capacity augmentation for R&D activity at RDSO incl. Centres of Excellence, Design Validation facilities
