World Environment Day-2025 observed in RDSO
RDSO observed World Environment Day, 2025 campaign from 22nd May to 5thJune 2025, focusing on the importance of reducing plastic usage, promoting recycling practices, and improving waste management.
A pledge was taken by M&C officials on 22nd May 2025 to begin the activities. Lectures were delivered by ED/M&C and AED/M&C on the topics of “Clean Air” and “Plastic Disposal and Waste Management.” A plantation drive was also conducted in the MTD Lab by M&C officials, and a cleanliness drive focusing on the disposal of plastic waste was carried out.
As part of this campaign, a special awareness program was organized at RDSO Hospital on 23rd May 2025. Dr. Kamal Kishore, PCMO emphasised on the need to reduce plastic usage and adopt eco-friendly alternatives and Dr. Mridul Shukla, ADMO addressed the hospital staff and railway beneficiaries and educating them about the harmful effects of plastic, especially the harm caused by single-use plastic and the various types of pollution caused by it.
Bharat Scouts and Guides, District RDSO organized various programs like cleanliness message by collecting plastic and polythene waste in colony, temple premises, scout hut and office area, appeal to citizens not to use polythene, environment awareness rally, tree plantation and drama to increase public awareness towards environmental protection and cleanliness.
On the occasion of World Environment Day (5th June 2025), the Railway Women’s Welfare Association (RWWA), RDSO organized an inspiring Tree Plantation Drive at Pakshi Vihar. The event was organised under the leadership of Smt. Manisha Borwanker, President/ RWWA/RDSO. Shri Uday Borwanker, Director General/RDSO along with senior officers and the members of RWWA/RDSO participated actively in the plantation. They planted a wide variety of saplings symbolizing hope, growth, and a cleaner environment.
Testing Directorate of RDSO observed World Environment Day with a range of eco-conscious activities aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. The newly developed “Pari-kalp Garden”,which was conceptualised and nurtured by the Directorate’s staff was inaugurated. The staff also showcased their creative ingenuity by crafting decorative artifacts from recycled plastic and scrap materials. The key exhibits included a beautifully designed Peacock sculpture symbolizing creativity and grace, functional chairs made from discarded materials, birdhouses made from natural materials, “I Love Testing” constructed entirely from discarded plastic waste and a miniature train model” skillfully crafted using waste wooden logs. Also, the Directorate undertook a Composting Initiative, wherein dry leaves and garden waste collected from the premises were systematically processed to create organic compost. Adding an artistic dimension to the occasion, staff members also contributed to the creation of vibrant wall paintings around the Directorate campus. These artworks serve the dual purpose of enhancing the visual appeal of the surroundings and spreading awareness about environmental conservation. These initiatives reflect’s RDSO’s proactive approach to sustainability and align with the global theme of World Environment Day 2025-“Beat Plastic Pollution.” The event served as a meaningful step towards inspiring eco-friendly practices and strengthening RDSO’s dedication to a greener future.
A fortnight-long awareness campaign organized on the occasion of World Environment Day concluded at the new auditorium of RDSOon 5thJune 2025. on this occasion, Shri Uday Borwanker, Director General/RDSO, graced the event as the Chief Guest. A short play titled “Say No to Plastic Pollution” was presented by the Bharat Scouts and Guides, RDSO, which conveyed a powerful message to the audience and was widely appreciated. Various directorates of RDSO showcased their environmental protection efforts done during the campaign through presentations, including actions to reduce plastic usage, green initiatives, and steps taken to spread public awareness among staff and the community. on this occasion, winners of the competitions organized under the campaign were awarded, and special recognitions were given for the best individual and team efforts. In his inspiring address, Shri Uday Borwanker, Director General/RDSO emphasized that environmental conservation should not be treated as a one-day event but should become an integral part of our daily lifestyle.
This event not only reflects RDSO’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability but also encourages every employee to contribute at a personal level.
