Urban Transport and High Speed corridors are being planned at number of locations in our country.  As per the recently passed Metro Act, in case of urban transport, a new technology will need the safety clearances from Indian Railways.  RDSO being a technical advisor to Railway Board, it is expected that Railway Board will entrust technical examination of the proposals received from various Urban Transport authorities to RDSO before giving final clearance.  This has been followed in case of DMRC and Airport Metro Express Line in Delhi.

Number of High Speed corridors with a speed potential of 250-350kmph have been identified for technical studies.  It is therefore, essential that RDSO should take an early action in advance to gain knowledge in the field of high speed so that necessary help and services can be rendered to field staff as and when needed.

Keeping these in view, a new directorate has been created named as UTHS.  This directorate will work as a single window for technical clearance to other Urban transport authorities.  In case some clarifications / clearances are needed from other directorates within the RDSO, then UTHS will interact with the concerned directorates.
