Stores Directorate caters to various materials requirements for RDSO, including advisory role on matters pertaining to Stores. It has two sectionsviz Purchase office and Central Stores Depot.


Purchase Office deals in procurement of approximately 1000 demands/annum, pertaining to items of civil, telecom and electrical maintenance to items ranging from stationery, computers, clothing, furniture, paints, oils, lubricants, tools and plants, small equipments, spares of machines and also of complex R&D items involving imports as well. The range and nature of items being procured is very wide and complex. Procurement in such purchase activity is governed/guided by Stores code, Finance code, Rules for entering into supply contract, Unified Schedule of Powers of RDSO and instructions issued by Ministry of Railways/ Railway Board from time to time. The Stores contracts are governed by Indian Standard Conditions of contract and General conditions of contract.


Central Stores Depot consist of 4 stocking wards, stocking and issuing about 472 items having annual turnover value of Rs 2.5crores. In addition there is a receipt and inspection ward and a scrap clearance section. All unwanted material is handed over to Alambagh /NR scrap depot, as the nodal scrap disposal centre.

RDSO has got extension of Registration Certificate, from Dept of Science and Technology under Ministry of Sc and Tech, for availing complete Central Excise Duty exemption for next 4 years i.e. valid up to 31.08.2016. Custom Duty exemption for concessional duty(@ 5% plus 4% ACD and cess ad velorum) is already granted to RDSO as per budget notification.


Various categories of documents held by Stores Directorate are Purchase files, Stores depot ledgers and registers for recording/maintaining of demands, ISO files etc.It is ISO 9001:2008 complied.

Transparency:All tender documents and NITs are published on RDSO website as well as public procurement portal. Besides tender document, list of purchase order valuing more than 10,000/- of every month is also published on RDSO website. Moreover 100% e-tendering for limited tenders and open tenders has been successfully implemented through IREPS portal where in prospective bidders can submit their e-offers digitally signed and fully secured.  Reverse auction a concept of dynamic bidding is also being resorted for competitive rate.

All the Stores activities are managed by a very small group which is about 1.5 % of RDSO strength.
